Murata — Narrow Pitch Taping

By rethinking how components are packaged, Murata demonstrates how small innovations can drive big environmental gains and strengthen customer partnerships.

Category: Circularity and Waste

Murata has optimized the way they package chip capacitors by reducing the space between components on reels. This “narrow pitch taping” allows nearly double the number of components to be packed in the same space, significantly reducing packaging material and plastic use.

Environmental impact

By halving the amount of plastic and paper used for packaging, this innovation contributes to multiple SDGs including Climate Action and Life Below Water. The reduction in material also lowers transport weight, cuts CO₂ emissions, and minimizes waste at the customer’s end.

Societal impact

Customers benefit from less waste, lower storage needs, and reduced transport costs. While the change requires technical adjustments, Murata actively supports each client during implementation. This close collaboration strengthens customer relationships and builds a more sustainable supply chain.

We’re proud to highlight Murata’s commitment to sustainability and innovation in packaging. Projects like this show how even small design changes can make a big impact!
