Nuna 13S
This is Nuna 13S! With the introduction of team Nuna 13S, we are entering an exciting new chapter. Building on years of experience in international solar racing, we are now setting our sights on a completely new challenge. For the first time ever, Nuna will race in the Electrek American Solar Challenge. A challenge no Dutch or European solar team has taken on before.
NUNA13S - Making new memories
Meet the team
Guus: “My personal goal is to make sure everyone within the team can perform at their best. If we succeed in that, we can do everything as a team to build the most efficient solar car possible.”
More about the teamleader role“With this new race we are facing major uncertainties, which means we need to stay flexible in our technical and logistical planning, all while having a car ready on the starting line in five months.”
More about the technical manager role“I used to see Nuna on TV, and I thought it was amazing, it’s one of the reasons I chose a technical study. Now I can’t wait to race myself.”
More about the Partnerships role"The project combines innovation with hands-on experience. Through my work with partners, I learn a lot about how companies operate." says Binke.
More about the Partnerships role“Working with a small team to push technology to its limits in such a short time, and seeing everything come together in a race, is already special. Taking on a completely new race makes it even more exciting, especially from a communication and PR perspective."
More about the Public Relations role“Before I decided to go to TU Delft, I had already seen a documentary about the team on YouTube. It sparked a little fire in my heart,” Raoul says. “Being able to do something this cool during your student years seemed amazing to me. That was one of the reasons I chose Delft for my mechanical engineering studies.”
“Four years ago, I started studying at TU Delft with the goal of becoming an aerodynamic engineers. Within the team, I can directly apply my aerodynamic knowledge to the development of the solar car. At the same time, the team offers much more than technical depth alone."
More about the Aerodynamics roleFor Tom, his motivation to join the team was clear. “I wanted to gain practical experience alongside my studies,” he explains. “This project is also a great introduction to the automotive world, where I hope to work in the future.”
More about the Aerodynamics roleHugo: “I’ve always enjoyed making things. In this project, I get to work with materials like carbon and aluminum at a level you don’t usually get to experience.”
More about the Mechanics role“I’ve known the team since I was young, which was also one of the reasons I chose a technical field of study. After completing my studies in aerospace engineering, joining Nuna felt like a natural next step.”
More about the Mechanics role“I’m actually predicting the future all year round. The better we do that, the better we can race. I spend the whole year working on a model that provides forecasts and recommendations to guide our decisions.”
More about the Strategist roleFynn: “Ever since I was little, I’ve been interested in engineering and solar racing. I even built a solar-powered boat when I was younger. Beyond that, this is an amazing opportunity to see how I perform under pressure and to continue developing myself.”
More about the Electical Engineer roleFor Thim, joining the team came after completing his studies in Applied Physics. “After a very theoretical degree, I wanted a new challenge where I could work much more hands-on.”
