Big Five

The design of Nuna 12s proudly showcases the Big Five, symbolizing our fifth participation in the Sasol Solar Challenge. Each animal reflects a core value of our team: the lion stands for leadership, the buffalo for invincibility, the leopard for speed, the rhino for resilience, and the elephant for wisdom. Together, these elements highlight our commitment to pushing boundaries in solar technology and teamwork.

The team marked an important milestone with Nuna 12s. This year, the team drove with a self-developed motor, combined with an innovative solar panel featuring highly efficient solar cells, once again pushing the boundaries of technology. The design of Nuna 12s is inspired by the Big Five, a symbol of the team's fifth participation in the Sasol Solar Challenge. Each animal represents a core value of the team: the lion stands for leadership, the buffalo for invincibility, the leopard for speed, the rhinoceros for resilience, and the elephant for wisdom. This combination of technology and symbolism highlights the team's collective commitment to advancing solar energy and embracing the power of collaboration.

In September 2024, the team competed in the Sasol Solar Challenge, renowned as the most extreme solar race in the world. This eight-day event takes participants across South Africa's breathtaking landscapes, testing their endurance through varying weather conditions. The objective is to cover as many kilometers as possible on the route from Johannesburg to Cape Town. With Nuna 12s, the team successfully completed 4132 kilometers, securing an impressive 3rd place finish.
